hitchcock

Rob is back in action (I mean really?! Where else?) with another Hitchcock creation. I would wax on about wondering what he thinks about this one, but I will just cut to the chase and get out of the way so that Rob can keep us updated on how his journey is going!

…and once again, Hitchcock stooped to the depths of disappointment in my eyes after watching this boring and silly movie.

He chose to do a period piece about criminals based at a local inn who looted ships and murdered the crews that of unsuspecting boats that they caused to crash on the rocks off of  the Cornish Coast.

Maureen O’Hara plays an innocent young women who is insistent upon going to this devious Inn because her aunt and uncle are the proprietors.  Little does she know that they are part of the gang looting the ships.

Hitchcock himself has admitted that this was one of his worst experiences while making a movie, largely due to the fact that lead actor Charles Laughton demanded more screen time which forced them to change the story around necessitating certain surprises to happen earlier than originally planned.

Despite its outdoor scenes and its criminal conspiracy themes, this movie was quite boring to watch.

It has even been named on a few lists as one of the worst movies ever.

I would concur. (but I think Eric at the IPC will claim that he can find hundreds that are worse) 🙂

I truly hope that this was the final “terrible” Hitchcock movie that I will watch for this blogathon, because the 4 of the 5 reviews I have left are from movies which have more prospect of being worthy of his name (1 not so much) 🙂

In my experience (I’ve not seen all of his silents) but this is one of his worst films. You’re coming up to some good ones Rob – keep going!

Hehe. No… I’ve really not watched the old stuff. Think Shadow of a Doubt is the oldest I’ve seen. Sounds like I shouldn’t bother! : )
